Grant D. Torgerson

Grant D. Torgerson, 70, of Woodburn, OR, died Saturday, March 1, 2014, at his home.
He was born on May 7, 1943, in Fergus Falls, to Lorimer and Irene (Holt) Torgerson. His family had farmed in Aurdal Township for several generations since their arrival in the mid-1800s. He attended District 143 in Aurdal Township, graduated from McIntosh Hish School when his parents later relocated there to operate a nursing home, and continued on to Valley City State in Valley City, ND and California Lutheran Bible School in Los Angeles, CA. His family were members of Vang Lutheran Church until they relocated to McIntosh.
On August 1, 1965, Grant was united in marriage to Sharon Larsen in Minneapolis.
Grant was a heavy truck diesel mechanic in California and Minnesota for forty years. After retiring from that career, he worked for Home Depot in Minnesota and Oregon for eight years.
He enjoyed backpacking in the Sierras and traveling throughout the US with his family. He enjoyed salmon fishing, crabbing and gardening since he and Sharon moved to Oregon in 2011.
Preceding him in death were his parents; sisters, Cynthia Estenson and Sonia Franze and several nieces and nephews.
Grant is survived by his wife, Sharon of Woodburn, OR; children, Jon (Jennifer) Torgerson of Thornton, CO; Eric (Debbie) Torgerson of Damascus, OR; eight grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; a brother, Paul (Marie) Torgerson of Princeton, MN and a sister, Lorilee (John) Mundfrom of Beresford, SD.
During the four months after his final illness was diagnosed, when friends or family would ask how he was doing, he would often say, “I’m content. And just waiting on God’s timing”.
Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who according to His abundant mercy has begotten us again to a living hope through the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead.
