Dorothy A. Hanson

Dorothy A. Hanson, 85, a resident of Chula Vista, CA, formerly Fergus Falls, died Thursday, January 22, 2015 at ActivCare at Rolling Hills in Chula Vista, CA.

Dorothy Ann (Carlsrud) Hanson was born July 19, 1929 in Rothsay to parents, Hilmer and Christine (Kjono) Carlsrud. She was the third of four children, brother, Don and sisters, Selma and Romayne.

She was united in marriage to Lester Hanson in 1946. Dorothy and Lester lived in Fergus Falls until 1961 when the family moved to California. Dorothy and Les returned to Minnesota from 1984 to 1997 to manage the Barnesville Furniture Store. During this time, they were able to reconnect with family and friends, enjoying their life’s activities with frequent family events.

Dorothy was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother and homemaker. She enjoyed family genealogy and one of her highlights was a trip to Norway in 1986.

Preceding her in death were her parents, Hilmer and Christine; siblings, Don Carlsrud, Selma Theodorson and Romayne Hammer.

Dorothy is survived by her husband of 68 years, Les of Chula Vista, CA; children, Geoff of Chula Vista, CA, Becky (Ray Willenberg) of San Diego, CA and Kerry Speakman of Racho Murieta, CA; grandchildren, Heather (Troy) Hawks, Chad Willenberg, Andrew and Geoffrey Speakman; great-grandchildren, Elizabeth, Jacob, Joshua and Jonathan Hawks, Hunter and Jordan Willenberg and Camilla Speakman. She is also survived by many beloved nieces and nephews.

Visitation: 1-2:30 p.m. Friday, January 30, 2015 at Olson Funeral Home in Fergus Falls followed by a graveside service: 3 p.m. at Hamar Cemetery, Rothsay, Minnesota
