Alice Eleanor Stenstrom, 87, a resident of Broen Memorial Home of Fergus Falls, passed away Saturday, June 17, 2017.
Alice was born June 25, 1929 in Butte, MT., the daughter of Edward & Dora (Vollum-Leeper) Grove. At the age of seven, she moved with her sisters to the home of her uncle and aunt, Henry & Thelma Splittgerber of Friberg Township. She was baptized August 11, 1940 at the Splittgerber home. She was confirmed at Tonseth Lutheran Church and attended District #187 country school in Edwards.
Alice worked as a nurse’s aide and studied to be an LPN for 3 years at Wright Memorial Hospital in Fergus Falls. On September 26, 1948, she married Robert L. Stenstrom at Tonseth Lutheran Church of Edwards, MN. They lived on a farm in Elizabeth Township on the NE corner of Long Lake.
Alice was a member of the Tonseth Lutheran Church since the age of 7. She enjoyed making puzzles, playing dice games, and especially enjoyed visiting with her family and going out to the lake cabin.
In earlier years she enjoyed playing cards, board games, quilting, embroidery, baking and taking family pictures.
Preceding her in death were her parents, Edward & Dora Grove; husband, Robert Stenstrom; brothers, Elmer, Lloyd and Arvid Grove, Fred Splittgerber; sisters, Daisy Gentry, Violet Engebretson, and Rose Bredeson; Uncle Henry and Aunt Thelma Splittgerber, who raised Alice.
She is survived by six children, Geraldine (Allan) Backstrom of Erhard, Sandra (David) Mandelke of Fergus Falls, Don (Karen) Stenstrom of Rothsay, Janet (Randy) Fowler of New York Mills, Patricia (Bruce) Kugler of Erhard, and Anne (Mark) Kent of Waubun; grandchildren, Dean Backstrom, Robbin (Jason) Weiers, Jessica (Mike) Fyhrie, Teresa (Matt) Beske, Wendy (Dale) Muchow, Joshua Kugler, Troy (Kerian) Stenstrom, Amber (Ben) Reed, Stacie (Chris) Morrison and Trevor (Amanda) Kent; great-grandchildren, Shannon, Casey and Dacia Backstrom, Paige and Maddie Fyhrie, Ethan and Noah Muchow, Harvey and Chloe Beske, Christian and Brecken Reed, Carson and Brooklyn Weiers, Makenna, Kellen and Holden Stenstrom; sister, LaVonne (Mark) Kenyon of Vergas; brother, Dennis (Carol) Splittgerber of Erhard; brother-in-law, Alvin Stenstrom; sisters-in-law, Marjorie Stenstrom, Mary Stenstrom, and Darlene Stenstrom, and numerous nieces and nephews.
Visitation: Tuesday, June 20, from 5-7:00 p.m. at Olson Funeral Home. A closed casket visitation will resume one hour prior to the service at the church
