Alfred C. Hensch, 86, a resident of Fergus Falls, passed away peacefully Sunday, October 8, 2017, at PioneerCare in Fergus Falls.

Alfred was born on August 30, 1931, to Albert and Alma (Miller) Hensch in Ottertail County. He was baptized and confirmed at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Western Township, and attended school in Western Township as well as Campbell School. Alfred also attended a Lumberman’s Short Course at the University of Minnesota.

Alfred married Donna Lou Bergquist on November 5, 1952, in Foxhome, MN. They raised 4 children together. Alfred farmed with his father until 1954 when he moved his family to Campbell and began working at Campbell Lumber Co. He was employed there for 13 years. Alfred was also a member of St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Campbell for many years where he held several offices including elder and taught Sunday School and adult Bible class.

In 1967 they purchased a farm east of Campbell in Ottertail County. In 1971, they moved to the farm, where he started Alfred Hensch Building & Supply and also farmed. He built and remodeled numerous homes in the area. In 1993 they moved to their home, that Alfred built on Wall Lake, where he enjoyed wind surfing, boating and other lake activities. He transferred to Faith Lutheran Church in Fergus Falls where he served as an Elder.

Alfred enjoyed his work, farming, family, friends, and traveling. Alfred was a founding member of the Wilkin County Sheriff’s Posse. He and Donna spent many winters in Texas with friends. He also enjoyed trail riding in Maplewood State Park and Medora, playing cards, and board games with family and friends.

Preceding him in death were his parents, Albert and Alma; grandson, Adam C. Hensch; daughter-in-law, Cynthia Hensch; sister and brother-in-law, Bertha and Ignatius Rick; brothers-in-law, Martin Anderson and Ray Sprague; and sister-in-law, Nola Hensch.

Survivors include his wife, Donna of Wall Lake; children, Jerry (Becky) Hensch of Fergus Falls, Jeanne (Jerry) Rupard of Dilworth, Rick (Barb) Hensch of Campbell, Ron Hensch of Foxhome; 6 grandchildren, Allisha (Juston) Heacox, Joshua (Thai) Hensch, Jodi (Jonathan) Volgren, Darick (Alicia) Hensch, Jared Hensch, and Leah (Louis) Blocker; 3 step-grandchildren, Brady, Chelsea, and Timothy Rupard; great-grandchildren, Alex, Arik, and Andrew Heacox, Oliver Hensch and Baby Hensch due 1/18, Jane, Jenna, and Julia Volgren, Karleigh Hensch, and Naomi Blocker; brothers, Frank (Judy) Hensch of Campbell, Ray (Joyce) Hensch of Campbell; sisters, Dorothy Sprague of Spokane, WA, Eileen Anderson of Campbell; numerous nieces, nephews, and friends, as well as life-long friend, Virgil (Mary) Albertson.

Visitation: 5-7 p.m. Wednesday, October 11, 2017, at Olson Funeral Home, with a public prayer service at 6:30, and resuming one hour prior to the service at the church
Service: 11 a.m. Thursday, October 12, 2017, at Faith Lutheran Church, Fergus Falls
Clergy: Reverend Craig Palach
Interment: Western Immanuel Cemetery, rural Fergus Falls
Arrangements are provided by the Olson Funeral Home, Fergus Falls
