Our History

The Olson Funeral Home was established in the early 1900's by Lars Olson and Conrad Skallman, his son-in-law, in Underwood, MN. Lars was joined by his son, Guy Olson in 1918. The business relocated to Pelican Rapids, MN, then later to Fergus Falls, MN. Guy was joined in the business by his son, Robert Olson in 1950. Guy S. Olson II joined the family firm in 1978. On January 9, 1995, the Olson Funeral Home moved into its present facility located at 711 Pebble Lake Road in Fergus Falls, Minnesota. In 1997, Olson Funeral Home acquired Grina Funeral Home in Rothsay, MN. The Fergus Falls facility contains a state-of-the-art crematorium, the first licensed crematory in Otter Tail County, licensed under the name of The Alternative Care Cremation Facility.

The Olson Funeral Home is located adjacent to Grotto Lake in the southeastern part of the City of Fergus Falls. Built in1995, the funeral home is a modern facility. Our large parking lot can accommodate any gathering size. On the west side of the building is a large drive under canopy for dropping off and picking up visitors.

With the glow of the gas fireplace, the foyer has a natural warmth for relaxed visiting. Our primary chapel can seat up to 200, providing ample seating for even the largest chapel service. This chapel can be subdivided into two smaller visitation rooms for the smaller gatherings. Also available for visitations are three other areas within the funeral home with seating capacities from 15 to 125 people. With a total of five separate visitation areas any size gathering can be accommodated. Our Lakeside Room was designed for casual fellowship and with the available kitchenette the fellowship is enhanced. Funeral arrangements are made in a homelike setting just steps away from the selection room containing a wide variety of caskets, urns, and outer burial containers.

Careful and reverent care is given to each person whom we are called upon to serve. All preparations are done on-site in our state-of-the-art preparation room.
